"Ram in a Thicket"
77. This gold and silver caprid prefigures the biblical description of Abraham's sacrificial ram. From the graves of Ur in Mesopotamia, the ram here is a metaphor for virility and renewal as embodied in the Near Eastern "dying and rising" god of vegetation, Tammuz, associated with the cycle of the seasons.
