114. An exotic parrot looks on while a quail, which often symbolizes the human soul, pecks at a cluster of grapes. Bountiful fruits, such as pomegranates and grapes, overflow the elegant Roman glass vessel in this arcosolium painting. Such images (also no. 93) were influenced by Hellenistic mosaics.
